VR course 2023-2024
We introduce Hammertime, a Virtual Reality locomotion technique that allows the user to move around with a strike based on the power and angle of the blow towards a surface using a sledgehammer. This technique enables the user to travel both horizontally and vertically seamlessly. The sledgehammer’s ’Force magnitude’ can be adjusted within five different extents to enable the user to jump to different heights and distances. Besides being quite effective, this technique results in the user having a fun and challenging experience in VR. We conduct a study where six participants complete an obstacle course using the Hammertime technique, in order to unravel which angle, in which the thrust is going towards, is the most appropriate and effective, and if it is even beneficial to choose the force magnitude, compared to just learning one force.
